Our story begins in the gem rich region of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, widely known as the City of Gems. For decades, our family has worked closely with the natural sources of Sri Lanka, developing a deep understanding of rare sapphires and, in particular, the elusive Padparadscha.

What began as direct sourcing from local miners evolved into a trusted presence within the Sri Lankan gemstone trade. Founded in 1980 as Rainbow Gems, the family business was established by the late Volly Dangedara with a clear vision to present authentic Ceylon sapphires to the international market through integrity, knowledge, and long standing relationships.

In 1982, his son Anil Dangedara joined the business, bringing with him a strong passion for gemstones and an expanding global outlook. Through decades of experience, Anil refined the company’s sourcing standards and strengthened its reputation among international jewelers, collectors, and industry professionals. Today, he continues to guide the business with a commitment to authenticity, transparency, and excellence.

Building on this foundation, the next generation now leads the specialized division dedicated exclusively to Padparadscha sapphires. Dinuka Dangedara, a GIA Graduate Gemologist, together with his wife Anuradha Dangedara (physicist), oversee operations through Rainbow Gems and Ceylon Blue Sapphire Pvt Ltd, under which Ceylon Padparadscha Sapphires operates as a focused daughter company.

By combining gemological expertise, scientific understanding, and generational knowledge, we continue to uphold the values that define our family legacy while offering a carefully curated selection of rare Padparadscha sapphires to a global clientele.
